Lots of talk about Doctor waiting times

I've noticed a few articles popping up about Doctor waiting times. My husband uses a clinic that requires an appointment. This is not the only clinic in our very small county. Two weeks ago he went to get his meds refilled and waited 2.5 hours to see the doctor.

Months ago we went together and had an appointment and waited 1.5 hours and started to get up to leave as he had to get to work. The nurse said no, stay. Just a few more minutes. That turned into another 45 minutes.

In all that time only 2 patients came out of the rooms and left. This is a clinic where we've never spent more than 20 minutes with a doctor.

yeah, seriously, what is up with that?

I had one OB/GYN who I waited a MINIMUM of an hour beyond the appointment time every single time. it was like, could the staff have the courtesey to call me, and tell me to come at least an hour late so they aren't wasting my time?

There was (maybe still is) an ENT in New York City who was legendary, not just for the excellence of his surgical work, for which people came from all over the world, but also for the length of his wait times. I once (maybe 20 years ago) had a 6:30PM appointment with him. Got off work at 6, and called them to see if I should go straight there, or if I had time to go home and eat dinner. The secretary said, "Well, our 6:30 appointments are running about 10:30-11 right now, so you might as well go home and eat."

I hit the waiting room at 11:45 PM, and got into his office around a quarter to one. I have no idea when he slept, if ever.

Why is it that doctor waiting times are so ridiculous!?! I never even get to them on time because I know if I do I'll be waiting for at least 30 minutes!

Are there any laws about a doctor and waiting times and what is acceptable?

Pharmecutical companies have reps who just walk in, and see the doctor, while patients who have appointments have to wait.

I walked out on my doctor today aftewr waiting 1.5 hours. He was "in a meeting" with the 3 reps who came in 20 mins after my scheduled time.

Anon. I doubt there are laws. They can't help if something comes up.

But to have a pt waiting 1.5 or more hours so he can talk to drug reps is unacceptable and he will lose pts by word of mouth.
